Bahia Honda broken bridge sunset

Description

A high quality image of this iconic landmark situated on Bahia Honda Key in the Florida Keys, United States The Bahia Honda railroad bridge was originally built by Henry Flagler as part of the FEC's Overseas Railroad. Opened in 1912, Flagler funded the railway construction between Miami and Key West using his own personal funds. The Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 destroyed much of the line, and FEC sought abandonment. It was purchased by the state of Florida and converted for highway use in 1938. I was visiting Key West in October 2014 and I realised that because of the time of the year, the sun would set between the spans of the bridges. To get this shot I had to walk out on a narrow concrete causeway, about two feet wide, to get the best angle. Standing there whilst the wavs were breaking just below my feet, I waited and caught the moment the sun touched the horizon. This image won a Best Picture award from Florida State parks association Less
